What are the health benefits of Vegan Omega 3?

Vegan Omega 3 provides the essential polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. The human body needs these fatty acids for many important processes, but unfortunately it cannot produce them itself. Omega-3 fatty acids are an integral part of the cell membranes of all body cells and are found in particularly high quantities in the brain (6). In addition to their function in cell membranes, they are also a component of important anti-inflammatory signaling molecules. Furthermore, omega-3 fatty acids support numerous important areas of the body, including, for example, heart health and the immune system (1,2). Other important processes in which omega-3 fatty acids are involved in the human organism include hormone production (3), protein synthesis (4) and cell metabolism (5)

In addition to being incredibly important as an essential nutrient for the body, the omega-3 fatty acids contained in Vegan Omega 3 have a number of other health benefits that have been shown in subjects of various studies. Omega-3 fatty acids supported recovery after exercise and reduced the extent of muscle soreness. These effects shown in subjects are due to the anti-inflammatory effects of omega-3 fatty acids (7). Another effect, also related to the reduction of inflammation levels, is the reduction of joint pain and the support of optimal joint function in the test group of a study that was due to the intake of omega-3 fatty acids (8). Similarly, ingestion in subjects led to increased use of fatty acids for energy. This resulted in fat loss being supported (9) and increased athletic performance due to a glycogen-sparing effect (10). As briefly discussed earlier, omega-3 fatty acids have a significant impact on cardiovascular health. By improving cholesterol and triglyceride levels, they have been shown in several studies to lower blood pressure and reduce dangerous plaques in the arteries. (1,11). In addition, scientific studies have also shown an effect on cognitive function. Omega-3 supported optimal mental performance and alleviation of symptoms of depression in subjects (12,13).

What distinguishes Vegan Omega 3 from fish oil capsules?

Unlike fish oil, Vegan Omega 3 is - as the name suggests - also suitable for vegans and vegetarians, as it does not contain any animal products. Moreover, Vegan Omega 3 is also much more sustainable than conventional fish oil. This is because the microalgae used for production are grown in aquacultures and thus do not contribute to overfishing of the oceans. Another advantage of these aquacultures is that, unlike fish living in the sea, the microalgae grown here are free of toxins such as mercury. Last but not least, algae oil has a lower risk of digestive problems compared to fish oil, and because it is virtually tasteless, it does not cause the fish-flavored belching that is common with fish oil (14). The fact that omega-3 fatty acids from algae are of the same high quality as those from fish oil is explained by the interesting fact that fish cannot produce their own omega-3 fatty acids but absorb them via algae (15). Numerous studies show that algae oil and fish oil are nutritionally equivalent (16).

What makes Vegan Omega 3 different from other vegan omega-3 supplements?

All other vegan omega-3 sources provide the omega-3 fatty acid alpha linolenic acid (ALA) instead of the EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids found in algae oil. Unfortunately, the human body can only use EPA and DHA. ALA can be converted to EPA and DHA in the human body, but this process is very ineffective and the conversion rate is no more than 10% or even lower (17). As a result, for products containing only ALA, a factor of 10 or more more must be consumed to actually benefit from the advantages of omega-3 fatty acids.

Omega 3 is probably one of the best researched supplements on the market. Countless studies have shown numerous positive effects on health, ranging from the immune system to hormone balance. GN delivers the benefits of Omega 3 free from any animal source and therefore also suitable for vegetarians and vegans, so that truly everyone can benefit from the advantages of Omega 3. Vegan Omega 3 by GN Laboratories - because in the end only results count.
