Magnesium is considered an essential mineral that influences a variety of functions in the human organism, or rather makes them possible in the first place. Magnesium is a cofactor for numerous enzymes and contributes significantly to maintaining a normal metabolism. Both DNA and protein synthesis (2,3) are significantly influenced by magnesium. The same applies to the provision of energy (4,5). In the human body, the mineral functions as a calcium antagonist. As such, magnesium is an important factor in the body's own production of vitamin D (6). Vitamin D can provide numerous benefits to the body, which is why optimizing vitamin D synthesis should be a high priority for everyone. However, in all of these processes, different forms of magnesium have been found to have different effects. Depending on the form of the mineral, it can be absorbed differently by the human body. The effect of magnesium as a dietary supplement is therefore highly dependent on the raw material on which the supplement is based. Magnesium Citrate from GN Laboratories uses, as can be easily seen, only magnesium citrate. This has an optimal bioavailability and is ideally absorbed by the body (1).

As already mentioned, magnesium is a cofactor for several enzymes. Some of these enzymes are required by the human body to build body mass and enable protein biosynthesis. This role in the synthesis of protein structures makes magnesium a crucial factor in muscle building (2,3). In the muscles themselves, magnesium also performs important tasks that are crucial for various functions in the body. Magnesium is involved in enabling the transmission of stimuli from the nerves to the various muscle cells. This conduction of stimuli ensures both contraction of the muscles and relaxation of the same (3). The relaxation of the muscles is of crucial importance for well-being, since without a functioning muscle relaxation, cramps can often occur, which are usually accompanied by severe pain. Scientific research concluded that study participants who regularly consumed magnesium had an antispasmodic effect on the muscles (7). In addition, similar to calcium, magnesium also plays a decisive role in the stability and resistance of joints and bones (6,8). A deficiency of the mineral can therefore lead to bone and joint problems, among other things. Magnesium influences bone health by contributing significantly to the synthesis of vitamin D, but also by influencing the interaction between vitamin D and calcium (6).

Magnesium is not considered a multi-talent among supplements for nothing. The range of positive effects on the human body, which are attributed to magnesium, is enormous. If you look at the individual benefits that a regular intake of magnesium can bring, it quickly becomes clear why the supplement is so popular beyond the boundaries of sports. Magnesium Citrate from GN Laboratories enables an optimal supply of your body. So you can take full advantage of the benefits of magnesium, so that nothing stands in the way of your goals.
