Notes

Pregnant and lactating women should not take ashwagandha because there is evidence that ashwagandha may increase the risk of miscarriage, and there is no firm evidence of safety and harmlessness during lactation.

People taking diabetes medications, blood pressure medications, or thyroid medications should discuss any use of ashwagandha with their treating physician, as ashwagandha can potentially lower blood sugar levels and blood pressure, as well as increase thyroid hormone production, which could lead to adverse interactions with said medications.

What is Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, is a medicinal plant that has been used in the field of traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine for over 3000 years. It is also known as the king of Ayurvedic herbs and is mainly used to relieve stress and increase energy levels (1,2). In addition, however, it is also used to improve concentration (3), relieve anxiety (4), and many other purposes. Ashwagandha is a so-called adaptogen, which means that it has a reputation for being able to increase the body's resistance to stress. In the same breath, it can also potentially reduce the dangerous effects of chronic stress on health and well-being.

Numerous scientific studies have now confirmed the stress-regulating effect of ashwagandha (1,5,6). In addition, the active ingredient has also been tested for many other benefits. For athletes, bodybuilders and health-conscious people, some interesting facts could be proven. Ashwagandha seems to be able to lower cortisol levels (5,6), and the evidence for its positive effect on overall sleep quality is also growing (7).

Even though ashwagandha is primarily known for its stress-relieving and calming effects, the medicinal plant has numerous other effects. Numerous studies have concluded that subjects taking ashwagandha were able to build up to 1.7 times more strength and up to 2.3 times more muscle mass than those not taking ashwagandha (8). In part, these effects appear to be due primarily to the fact that the compound was able to increase levels of endogenous muscle-building hormones by up to 40% in men in one study (5,8). In addition to this, significantly less exercise-induced muscle damage was observed in the subjects (8). In conjunction with the anti-inflammatory (9,10) and antioxidant properties of ashwagandha (10), supplementation can potentially lead to significantly faster and better recovery after exercise (8).

However, ashwagandha was not only able to improve muscle growth in test subjects. It was also able to accelerate the fat loss of the subjects (11,12). Indeed, it appears to have tangible physiological effects on fat loss. For example, there is evidence that ashwagandha can normalize natural levels of the thyroid hormones T3 and T4 (13), which are critical for regulating metabolism and for fat loss. Ashwagandha has also been used in studies to reduce blood glucose levels and increase insulin sensitivity (14,15), in addition to improving immune system function (16,17,18) and improving cognitive function and memory in subjects (3).

A large part of the health benefits of Ashwagandha are attributed to a group of plant compounds called withanolides. In order to guarantee a constant and always consistent maximum effect, our Ashwagandha is standardized to a very high withanolide content of 35%. This standardization ensures that each batch has the same withanolide content and the same effectcan always be guaranteed.

Ashwagandha from GN Laboratories, delivers the numerous benefits of the Indian medicinal plant in easy-to-dose capsule form. So that everyone can benefit from the king of Ayurvedic herbs and the stress of everyday life is easier to swallow.
